Swine Flu Outbreak in North Cyprus - Five Cases ReportedAccording to the Yeni Duzen newspaper (18.01.16) under the heading “There are five flu cases but there is no danger”, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Omer Gur, announced that five people had been diagnosed with the symptoms of the H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu.

He explained that the government had everything under control and that the patients were not in danger. Gur added that the Ministry has taken all the necessary precautions to avoid the virus spreading and explained that the H1N1 variety does not differ from the other flu cases.

Three patients with the virus were being hospitalized at the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital and the others were at the Near East University Hospital.

A few years ago there was an outbreak in the south, with 20 people developing symptoms, and there were two deaths. As is usually the case, those who died had pre-existing medical conditions. In other words, this is a nasty form of flu but for healthy people there is nothing to worry about.
