David Haye v John Ruiz – WBA Heavyweight fight on 3rd April

David Haye (the Haymaker) fights on the day that Manchester United plays against Chelsea in order to establish who is top of the FA Premiership. Haye says that he intends to be at the match where he will parade his WBA belt to the 70,000 fans expected to attend Old Trafford.

Hayes, who trains in north Cyprus, will fight John Ruiz at Manchester’s MEN arena and he says that Ruiz will be harder to fight than Nikolai Valuev from whom he took the belt. This will be Hayes first defence of his belt. 38 year-old Ruiz has been beaten eight times during his 54-fight career, including one draw and 30 knockouts. He last fought in November, when he beat 35 year-old Adnan Serin as the under-card of the Valuev/Haye tournament.

On the face of it, 29 year-old Hayes should have no problem dispatching the ageing Ruiz, barring unexpected upsets.
