100,000 people needed to sign petition for TRNC recognition

You have to admire the effort put into this by the petition creators. They are looking for 100,000 signatures (or is it 200,000?) and $250 in donations. Hopefully they’ve worked out what they’ll do when they get the signatures as very few petitions work unless backed up by action, e.g. vote for an MP or MEP on the basis of their support.

“We simply ask that the world stops listening to the propaganda spread by our Greek Neighbors. Please recognize our existence, that is all we want. We want peace on the island and we want to live without being isolated and without being called an “occupied area”. Turkey is only still here because our Greek neighbors rejected our last chance to make peace on the island by saying \”no\” to the Annan Plan. What do they want now? to push us into further isolation with no trade, no recognition and no identity! We are simply too few in number compared to them in Cyprus and cannot make as big lobbying actions as they do. We simply do not have the resources. But if you are interested you can always make the effort gather your information from unbiased sources to get our side of the story as well. To really understand what went on between 1963 and 1974..these events that lead to the war and the reasons for Turkey intervening (as a guarantor country for the Republic of Cyprus) with the genocide that had already started happening on the island. We do not support the fact that neither the Turkish Cypriots nor the Greek Cypriots cannot simply claim their old homes from each other at the moment but this is just a political problem that needs to be solved by the cooperation of both sides. However, our last chance of cooperation with the Annan Plan passed us by even though the Turkish Cypriots said “yes” to this plan. Why? simply because our Greek neighbors could not handle the few little rights offered to the Turkish Cypriots with that plan. Why? because they want to rid the island completely of the Turkish Cypriots and claim the island to themselves. This is simply not fair. It simply is unacceptable. If I am wrong then we are begging them to prove us wrong. And until they do and until they understand that we need to claim our rights on that island and that we have the right to exist there as much as they do, there will be no peace on the island the way that they want it.”
