Brit-Style Facelift For Supermarket – Lemar is creating ‘expat-friendly’ supermarkets in Catalkoy and in Alsancak, including the closed one near the Golden Lady statue where Astro used to operate. They will each include a cafe and a market and will be ‘a cross between Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s and M&S.’

THE REST

Watch This Space: GAU Has a Mission – the Girne American University, which MIGHT open an air taxis service, MIGHT open the first Astrophysics and Space Sciences faculty in Cyprus.

Workers \issue ‘Final Warning’ – air traffic controllers at Ercan are warning that they will strike 30 days after the government strike ban ends. The government has the power to ban strikes twice in 12 months and the second time this was done was on March 13th for 60 days. This means the strike will happen sometime after May 13th, probably in June. Editor: see next summary

Airlines ‘likely to put flights at Ercan on hold – Pegasus, Onur Air and Atlasjet have warned that they are likely to suspend flights to and from Ercan after a meeting next Wednesday in protest at increased charges at the airport. They threaten to suspend flights for a day or even a week and say that this was not an empty threat. Editor: the lost income for doing this would probably be more for the airlines than for the airport.
