Unfortunately there was an unexplained 18,522TL shortfall which Richard Currie, the Committee Chairman, says he will make up. Landlord loses £11,000 pay-out – an ex-pat won a court case to recover rent from a Turkish national who had lived in his house for several years. The award should have been £20,000 to include expenses but as the tenant has now returned to Turkey the award cannot be collected anyway. The landlord was not allowed to evict the tenant until a new law was introduced last year. Editor: hopefully the government will give him a tax rebate for the rental loss
Letter: stop picking on expats to explain unpaid taxes – further to a story saying expats in Esentepe are breaking TRNC laws regarding the renting of property and charging for a lift to the airport, a resident there accuses the newspaper of discrimination.
