J-Lo says NO to North Cyprus

J-Lo is hitting headlines once again, but this time it’s not for the size of her derriere! After agreeing to perform at the opening launch of the Cratos Premium hotel in North Cyprus, she caved in to Greek and Greek Cypriot pressure and abruptly cancelled the concert. J-Lo once sang “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” But if you replace the word “Love” with “Hate” or “Oppression”, then you’d be describing the Greek Cypriot propaganda perfectly.

I expect J-Lo’s a bit busy to do a little research on the Cyprus Problem, but surely her 30 plus entourage could take time out from checking the lilies in her dressing room are all white, to do a bit of accurate research before she accepted $3 million to perform in North Cyprus. Perhaps she could have got her team to research the well-documented world press from the late fifties to early sixties, or, failing that, they could have picked up a copy of The Genocide Files. Light reading, it’s certainly not, but it gives a good background on the Real Cyprus Problem.

No doubt J-Lo has been fooled into believing that the Greek Cypriot’s obsession with Enosis and their campaign of genocide against Turkish Cypriots never happened. No doubt she’s been duped into thinking that the Akritas Plan and EOKA didn’t exist; that the Greek Cypriots didn’t illegally and forcibly eject the Turkish Cypriots from Government in 1963, or that Turkish Cypriots fled their homes, fearing for their lives, and were forced to live in enclaves. A representative for J-Lo said: “Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse.” An interesting statement, considering that the basic human and constitutional rights of Turkish Cypriots have been consistently abused since 1963.

And whilst J-Lo did apologize for this saga, adding that the statement had been made by her advisors without her knowledge or consent, I find it hard to believe that she would allow her advisors to release statements without her knowledge. At the end of the day, it’s all about $ notes, not what’s right and wrong. And I thought J-Lo was “just Jenny from the block.” Now, I’m a big fan of J-Lo, but sadly, it’s uneducated superstars like this, backing down due to pressure, who allow underhand political agendas to continue the abuse of our human rights. She is an entertainer, after all, not a politician. It’s great to see that Sean Paul, an international singer, who will perform in North Cyprus on 7th August, hasn’t crumbled under Greek Cypriot political nonsense.

Fevzi Hüseyin, Chairman of Turkish Cypriot lobbying group Embargoed!, said: “This is an indication that there is no hope of reconciliation in Cyprus.” And I have to agree. Every time North Cyprus takes one step forward to end the isolation and embargoes imposed on us, the racist and fanatical of the Greek Cypriots start a propaganda riot. Hardly the spirit of peaceful negotiation talks, is it? They don’t want North Cyprus to have direct trade, they don’t want J-Lo to perform, they don’t want the Immovable Property Commission to be approved by the ECHR. I could go on, but I’d be here all day! The Greek Cypriots will use every single opportunity to keep Turkish Cypriots isolated.

So, what do Greek Cypriots want? The answer is…everything. Unfortunately, they still want to control the whole island and oppress Turkish Cypriots as second class citizens. And whilst their holiday resorts are heaving with tourists, international businesses are investing in the South, their economy is being boosted by direct trade, and they are wrongly recognized by the EU, they have everything they could want. And yet they’re still not happy! But it won’t wash anymore. The international community is waking up to the true intentions of South Cyprus. Their record of “spoilt brat” tantrums are finally showing the world their true colours.

They say that any publicity is good publicity, and maybe that’s true. This saga has certainly sparked an outcry amongst Turkish Cypriots all over the world who refuse to be treated like third class citizens any longer. This time it’s motivated Turkish Cypriots to arrange peaceful protests in UK, North Cyprus, and Australia on dates to be arranged shortly. The march will be supported by ATCA and Embargoed! For more details, see the Facebook group: PROTEST – AGAINST THE ISOLATION OF NORTH CYPRUS BECAUSE WE EXIST!

Now J-Lo will miss having a suite at the Cratos Premium hotel named after her. Perhaps they should call it The Oppression Suite, but who would want to stay there? Strange, Turkish Cypriots have been living that way since 1963.
