ATCA, together with the Southwark Cypriot Turkish Association and the Cyprus Turkish Association, handed a letter to the Greek Cypriot “High Commissioner” (Mr. Alexandros N. Zenon) in St James’s Square London yesterday afternoon to mark the 36th anniversary celebrations for Turkey’s Peace Operation. The letter was accompanied by a black wreath and a bottle of alcoholic drink. The message read as follows:
Dear Mr. Alexandros N. Zenon,
It is the 36th anniversary of the 20th July Peace Operation which has brought peace to the whole island of Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriot People are well aware of the vital importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which was established as a result of the peaceful circumstances created after the Peace Operation of 1974. All Greek & Turkish Cypriots must be thankful to Turkey for bringing a long lasting peace to a previously turbulent and troubled island.
Please accept our special gift on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot People worldwide to celebrate the marking of the 20th July Peace and Freedom Day in Cyprus. Additionally, can you also please accept the black wreath as a symbol of mourning for the hundreds of Turkish Cypriots killed by Greek and Greek Cypriots and also for the death of the so-called “Republic of Cyprus”.
The Turkish Cypriot People will never abandon their right to self-governance and determination and to allow a return to pre-1974 days of genocide and apartheid.
Yours truly,
Mr. Cetin Ramadan
