Power battle resumes for expats – Kib-Tek are fighting desperately in the courts for the right to turn off Kulaksiz 5’s electricity, explaining that unless they do so the company may go bankrupt. The Finance Ministry currently owes the power company 277m TL. Editor: the expats had paid their share of the bill in full up until February 27th but now owe 1491 TL for their outstanding share . However, it appears that non-K5 residents have not paid their share of the bill and have allowed it to increase to about 8000TL in a similar way that an unpaid £40,000 loan was allowed to increase to around £800,000 so that AkFinans Bank could claim the K5 purchasers’ homes. Seems to be a pattern here.

Hotel fights to win back star’s $300,000 advance – it now appears that Julio Iglesias isn’t going to give his advance back to Merit Crystal Cove because a US court doesn’t recognise the TRNC. The company’s lawyer says that TRNC companies with contracts with the US should be worried that they might not be paid. Editor: I thought the TRNC was embargoed?

Supermarket chain to take over Astro sites in major expansion – Lemar intends to reopen the Astro Supermarket at Alsancak, closed in 2009. They are also going to open shops in Girne and Lefkosa. Editor: obviously their market research tells them that the Alsancak site is desperately needed in an area where supermarkets are struggling to survive. However, they hint that they have a master plan which involves giving good customer service.

British passengers ordered off bus – by GCs at Metehan crossing because they were tourists and not Turkish Cypriots. It is alleged this was because they had entered Cyprus by Ercan airport. Editor: mind you, I’ve heard that the British passengers could have walked across the crossing and joined the bus in the south because it would have been illegal to stop them if they were on foot. Seems that there might be more to this story than meets the eye and could be more to do with tourist buses not having RoC qualified Tour Guides.

Jailed property developer could forfeit £1.6m from bank account – Gary Robb’s cash could be taken by the Serious Organised Crime Agency in the UK. Editor: and given back to the victims?
