Why attend the London Protest or Lefkosa Peaceful Silent Candlelit Vigil?

Abdurrahman Guney - Kulaksiz Construction Director

Why should you attend the Protest in London or the Peaceful Silent Candlelit Vigil in Lefkoşa? Well, if you are one of the people who bought in the TRNC and your experience was trouble free, your home/holiday home was built to a reasonable standard and you were able to register your title without any obstacles being placed in your way; then yes, you have no reason to attend but we hope you will, if only because you recognise the INJUSTICE of what has happened to your friends, neighbours and fellow expatriates and to the Turkish Cypriots too, the people you have chosen to live amongst.

In liaising with members of ABAG it has been brought home to me just how many parallels exist between ABAG and KULAKSIZ 5. The first being the law firm Talat Kürşat and that Akan Kürşat should have been a Shareholder in Aga Development Limited Ltd alongside that well know felon and serial con artist who’s very existence has so detrimentally impacted on the lives of the ABAG membership. One has to wonder what dividends they received. Did Akan Kürşat act for any purchaser on Aga Development, did he tell them of his interest and could this be construed as a conflict of interest? I am not accusing, just asking the question.

I am not a believer in coincidences, people rarely change so it should come as no real surprise that Akan Kürşat pops up again as Advcate for AKFINANS BANK LIMITED, who allowed a mortgage to be taken by the builder and landowner of Kulaksiz 5 after they had been Contracted to and paid for by the legal owners, thus using as security the homes of the owners without their knowledge or consent. That the legal system in the TRNC went on to condone this action by allowing these homes to be auctioned is public knowledge. That this same system rubber stamped the outrageous interest rate applied by AKFINANS BANK LIMITED, 80% per quarter compound, a rate allegedly described by the President of Turkey as ‘opportunist’; somewhat of an understatement.

Kulaksiz Construction Limited were given a Contract to do some work on Amaranta Valley, I can remember Orhan Cimer the then ‘customer liaison officer’ for Kulaksiz telling me that this Contract would be worth millions to Kulaksiz. I am afraid that the dream faded very quickly for Kulaksiz and we all remember them picketing Amaranta Valley because they were still owed £56,000 after they were kicked off the site. That they were kicked off does not surprise me. What did surprise me was the fact that they were given the Contract in the first place, knowing the quality or lack of quality of their work. I also remember the assault by one of the Kulaksiz picketers on someone trying to enter Amaranta Valley and the picture in Cyprus Today of someone said to be Abdurrahman Guney; it was not, it was his brother. Today I will correct that mistake by publishing a photo of Abdurrahman Guney who was Director of Kulaksiz Construction during the time I am referring to and who also took the cowards way out and legged it to Turkey when the going got tough. It has to be mentioned also that so did the landowner Yuksel Yilmaz who now works for Pegasus Airlines at Hatay Airport.

ABAG and KULAKSIZ 5 also have something very sad in common, apart from buyers loosing their homes and their money. There have been premature deaths due to the stress of the situation in both groups. Members of both groups have received real and frightening threats. You will all recall the break in and attempt to run Chris over with a motor vehicle. When I explained to a member of ABAG that before getting into our car, we check underneath and also check the brakes before venturing far, she confirmed that she and members of her group also do the same.

In this article I am only relating to cases I know of. I am aware that out there, many of you are suffering too. The time for suffering alone is over, join us, make us aware of your circumstances, shout them from the rooftops. This injustice cannot be allowed to continue, join us, there is strength in unity.
