Event Details

Many people still believe the Cyprus Conflict starting in 1974. This event aims to counter that by highlighting the suffering of Turkish Cypriots between 1963-1974, which prompted Turkey to militarily intervene. Turkish Cypriot victims from the early years of the conflict will be the focus of our photographic display on the night. We are also mindful of the losses of all Cypriots and that will be the core thrust of our discussion on the night. The Elders, a group of global elder Statesmen formed by Nelson Mandella that includes the likes of Desmond Tutu and Jimmy Carter, recently filmed a documentary about Cyprus’ tragic past and hopes for the future. We will screen this/extracts of this on the night followed by our panel debate.

One of the key questions we will be asking is how do we move the Cyprus Problem forward? Dignity and Respect are two values at the core of any messages projected by the Embargoed! Human Rights Group. These behaviours need to be reciprocated as the ability to get on will be based on a 2-way street. Cypriots have suffered in a big way over the years. Our special guests will shed light on their thoughts for how differences can maybe be reconcilled. Don’t miss this seminar. Participation is free but you will need to RSVP as per instructions below. Capacity is limited so please reply early to avoid disappointment. Those of you who have indicated your attendance already do not need to do so again.
