Daily Images – Skylab Space Station operated with a 3-man crew between 1973-74. During launch the station was damaged but crew managed to make some repairs and it survived until 1979 when it fell to earth. The San Francisco Examiner offered a $10,000 prize for the first piece of Skylab delivered to its offices and 17-year-old Stan Thornton found 24 pieces of Skylab at his home in Australia. A Philadelphia businessman flew him, his parents, and girlfriend to San Francisco, where he collected the Examiner prize.
