in Cyprus Today

Banks shift rates blame – Universal Bank blames the borrowers for the large increases in their loans and says that Sante Fe Construction boss Bulut Akacan, who forced the cancellation of the recent auction, bought luxury goods instead of paying off his loan. They also said that the owner of the property being auctioned had made no attempt to repay their loan either and that “he had borrowed at 12 per cent interest.” Editor: something wrong there, either with Cyprus Star’s reporting or Universal Bank’s calculation. The Star wrote that a 300,000 TL debt was inflated by Universal Bank to 1.8m TL.
