Cyprus News - South's President to Undergo Heart SurgeryCyprus News – South’s President to Undergo Heart Surgery

According to an official spokesperson for the south’s government, President Nicos Anastasiades is to “very soon” undergo surgery to repair a defective mitral valve in his heart. The problem was spotted while he was undergoing a routine health check when the 68-year-old was admitted to a hospital in Brussels last month after suffering a nosebleed caused by high blood pressure, causing him to miss a European Union summit. At the time the bleeding was stopped by cauterization.

Of course we hope the president’s operation is successful and that he doesn’t put off the procedure because as we all know, a stitch in time saves nine. Much the same applies to a solution to the Cyprus Problem which for nearly half a century has been continually put off. What could have been relatively simple in 2004, for example, is becoming more and more difficult especially with the possibility of armed forces clashing over off shore energy exploration.
